EXHIBITION MAX VELTHUIJS
A retrospective exhibition about the work of author / illustrator Max Velthuijs who became internationally known with his picture books about Frog. We designed and produced a diptych for the Literary Museum over two halls.
The first part shows the developments in his work from artist, graphic artist, illustrator to internationally acknowledged author of picture books. His career developed by doing and exploring. We translated this into a metaphoric, meandering path through the exhibition halls.
The visitor is chronologically guided – supported by personal quotes from Max Velthuijs himself – along the different phases in his work. The path ends in an open space in the second exhibition hall which is entirely dedicated to the Frog picture books. For children aged 4 to 7 years we made six theme islands with playing and doing elements. Feelings and experiences that Frog has to deal with in the picture books – e.g. security, freedom, friendship, discovery and recognition – have been associatively translated into an educational playground. Here children can discover, do, learn and experience as Frog himself!
