DE MAATSCHAPPIJ OP DE STOEP
How do you start a wide discussion about corporate social responsibility within a large energy network company? DWARS ontwerp developed a confrontation campaign concerning current social themes. Together with employees of the company, themes and issues were selected and addressed, themes such as privacy, domestic violence, ageing of society, labour force participation, quality of life in neighborhoods, sustainability, climate change and supply chain responsibility. We translated each theme into a confrontation object: a rough transport crate with fragile content. Handle with care! Sender: society, without return address.
The eight transport crates are placed on the sidewalk of the offices of the network company: literally society on the doorstep! The transport crates travelled along the sidewalks of the largest branches of the network company in a period of eight weeks.
Every crate deals with a social theme in a surprising way. Not just to inform, but also to take a stand and to feed discussion. In each crate three statements are presented which employees can choose by pressing the corresponding button. What do you think? Whose responsibility is it? Think about your own point of view, make it known and contribute to the discussion. A digital counter keeps track of how often a statement is chosen. The scores are also kept on the website developed for the project (demaatschappijopdestoep.nl) where theme ambassadors from within the company call to participate in the debate e.g. through the discussion forum.
The campaign has been concluded with a final meeting in Park Sonsbeek in Arnhem. Here all eight crates and thus all issues came together and employees and external stakeholders exchanged ideas about how to deal with corporate social responsibility as a large energy network company.
