TAP WATER STATION
Join the Pipe
Access to clean drinking water is a problem in large parts of the world. Join the Pipe is the first social network of tap water drinkers and wants to change that. Join the Pipe promotes drinking tap water with the aim of a fair distribution of drinking water. With the sale of water taps and refillable tap water bottles, drinking water projects in developing countries are financed. In the Netherlands we become aware of the quality of our own tap water and we contribute to the reduction of the sale of bottled water and therefore to potential litter!
The tap water station has been specially developed for the public space. They can now be found everywhere in the Netherlands: on squares, in parks, in schools and sports fields they are connected to the water mains and fresh drinking water can be tapped free of charge.
The tap water station is a modularly design that can be placed in several configurations. For example, there is a configuration for the (public) outdoor space, provided with a standard foundation or a watertight and frost-free water meter pit. The water tap can also be provided with a water fountain or a drip tray. There is also a freestanding version for indoor use – optionally equipped with a rotomoulded drip tray – or as a version for installation in bar furniture.
The second generation of the tap water station was designed from a view of a long, low-maintenance life cycle and the cost-effective use of series production techniques and materials such as ‘lost wax casting’ of stainless steel parts, the use of cast iron for the foundation, the bending of seamless stainless steel pipes and the rotational molding of the plastic drip tray.
